My Earth Letter to the President of the United States

Dear Obama,

I am sending you a couple of quotes that may help you see what the people think. I know you are trying your best about trying to fix the oil spill but this is not our only concern. There are many things out here that are concerning us and the oil spill is just an eye opener. It opened our eyes to see what we are doing to Earth. Earth is a very fragile thing and we can easily destroy it like we are now. Things need to change before it is too late. Below are ten quotes I have given you that are from different authors.

"The ultimate test of man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard."

~ Gaylord Nelson, former governor of Wisconsin.

There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all. ~Robert Orben

For 200 years we've been conquering Nature. Now we're beating it to death. ~Tom McMillan, quoted in Francesca Lyman, The Greenhouse Trap, 1990

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle, 1855

Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,

For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.

America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,

And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.

~George Carlin

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. ~Cree Indian Proverb

"I really wonder what gives us the right to

wreck this poor planet of ours."

Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

"What is the use of a house

if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?"

Henry David Thoreau

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed."

~ Mohandas K. Gandhi

Our modern industrial economy takes a mountain covered with trees, lakes, and running streams and transforms it into a mountain of junk, garbage, slime pits, and debris.

~ Edward Abbey

Thank you for taking the time to read these quotes. I hope I have helped influence you on the damage we are doing to this Earth. We need to do something now before it’s too late and everything is already dead and can't be saved. I hope it never comes to that so we must act now and save the planet. We don’t own Earth, we are just a thing living on it and it owns us. It can shake us off itself because we are bothering it. Just like a flee on a dog, it can only allow it for so long until it gets bugged by it and gets rid of it. That could happen to us if we don’t take action immediately. The future of Earth is in our hands.
